Shoppers Foundation for Women’s Health operates on a foundational belief: communities thrive when women are healthy. This is what drives our mission to make women’s health visible, by highlighting the often-overlooked dimensions of women’s health in Canada. With an expansive network of over 360 dedicated charity partners, we are focused on delivering critical local impact, addressing a wide array of needs, from mental health support and menstrual equity initiatives to violence prevention programs. These partnerships are fundamental to advancing our mission and amplifying our impact to reach women in diverse communities across the country.
One such partnership is with FearIsNotLove, an organization dedicated to providing support to victims of domestic violence in Calgary, Alberta. With a staggering 44% of women and girls in Canada who have been in an intimate partner relationship having faced some kind of psychological, physical or sexual abuse, FearIsNotLove’s Calgary Women’s Emergency Shelter provides a lifeline and safe haven for women in need¹.
The support provided by Shoppers Foundation for Women’s Health is enhanced by the passionate efforts of local Associate-Owners and their teams. A total of 46 stores in the Calgary area contribute to the organization’s mission, and Alison Davison, Associate-Owner of three Shoppers Drug Mart stores shared why this is a cause that matters to her.
“My collaboration with FearIsNotLove is one of the most meaningful parts of my job. Supporting women’s health and safety isn’t optional, it’s essential. Women and families affected by violence show up as our patients, our customers, our friends, and our neighbours,” says Alison.
“And what I appreciate most about this charity is that its message goes beyond violence against women: it’s a reminder that fear should never define love, and that everyone deserves relationships rooted in respect and safety,” she adds.
The collaboration between Shoppers Foundation for Women's Health and FearIsNotLove is an example of how collective action can create safer, healthier futures for women. By addressing critical needs at a local level and shining a light on prevalent issues like domestic violence, the Foundation strives to ensure every woman in Canada has the opportunity to live without fear and to feel empowered and healthy.
