Elevating skincare consultations with a simple scan
April 2, 2026

What if understanding your skin could start with a simple scan? In beauty departments at Shoppers Drug Mart® and PharmaprixMD stores across the country, customers can now receive personalized skincare recommendations based on real insights about their skin, all with a quick, easy and free scan.
Using a new spa-grade Skin Analysis Tool, Beauty Specialists can perform a skin analysis that assesses key skin indicators such as hydration, oil production, pore visibility, texture, fine lines, pigmentation, and surface impurities.
“After a global search for cutting edge technology and devices, our mission was to bring best-in-class skin analysis tools and launch it nationally to enhance our in-store customer experience,” says Sandy Santucci, Category Director, Derm skincare. “As leaders in the Canadian market for Derm skincare, our vision was to elevate our in-store experience for customers and provide our Beauty teams specific tools to improve the calibre of skin consultation.”
During the scan, the handheld device captures magnified images of the skin and measures moisture below the surface. Specialized lighting highlights details like pores and texture, and within seconds the Specialist can review the results with the customer and talk through the best next steps.
“Rather than relying solely on visual observation, the tool gives us measurable insights that help guide personalized product recommendations and routines,” says Lindsay White, Director, Beauty Operations. “It helps customers understand why certain products are suggested and lets them track improvements over time.”
The tool also helps create a more consistent consultation experience across all beauty departments, while still leaving room for personalized advice. “It naturally shifts the conversation from selling a single product to building a complete skincare routine that supports long-term results,” says Lindsay.
Bringing the Skin Analysis Tool to stores was a cross-functional effort, with teams across the business working together to support the launch. Together, they rolled out training that included virtual master classes, consultation guidance, technology use, hygiene protocols, and BeautyNOW integration.
So far, customer feedback has been very positive. “Many people say the experience feels personalized and professional, and they like understanding the ‘why’ behind the recommendations,” says Lindsay.
Looking ahead, the team sees even more potential: “The technology could evolve with AI-driven insights, deeper loyalty integration, and digital profiles that track customers’ skin progress over time, helping create an even more connected and personalized beauty experience.”
