Before the fireworks, there’s the food.

Canada Day has a way of turning summer meals into the main event: grills get fired up, snacks come along for the ride and simple gatherings feel a little more special.

For shoppers looking for value, this summer’s PC® Insiders ReportTM shows how to make those moments feel fresh, easy and worth it. For more than 40 years, President’s Choice® has used the Report to help Canadians spot what’s new, now and next in food, bringing together special pricing, PC OptimumTM offers, distinctive products, recipes and PC Test Kitchen tips that make the season easier to enjoy.

Gilean Watts, a member of the PC Test Kitchen team, says tracking food trends is one of the best parts of her job. This season, she points to a few trends that bring plenty of flavour and value to summer gatherings.

First up: swicy, the mash-up of sweet and spicy flavours. “I’m loving our new PC® Tropical Sweet Heat Wing Sauce,” says Gilean. “A quick toss or brush of this sauce adds that perfect balance of heat and sweet to grilled wings and seafood, so easy!” It’s a simple way to add a little spark to Canada Day entertaining or any summer cookout.

Global flavours are also big this summer, and the Report makes it easy to explore them at home. PC Jerk Chicken Burgers are a new take on Jamaica’s iconic jerk chicken, known for smoky flavour and a signature blend of spices. Inspired by a family recipe and tested by more than 60 food experts, they’re a convenient and economical freezer-to-grill option for summer gatherings.

Canadian pride is showing up in a snackable way, too. PC World of Flavours limited-edition Canadian Series chips highlight best-loved foods from coast-to-coast, offering a playful way to bring a taste of the country to the table. “As an East Coaster, I have to give a shout-out to our new Halifax Donair Chips in this collection,” add Gilean.

Protein continues to be a priority for shoppers, and PC® Smoked Chicken Sausages make it easy to get more. Made with lean chicken breast, each sausage packs 16 grams of protein. As Gilean explains, “These are pre-cooked, so simply pan-fry or grill them to your liking for any meal of the day. They’re juicy, flavourful, and genuinely delicious.”

For easy finishing touches, Gilean is also into PC® Squeeze & Drizzle Dips. A squeeze of hummus, roasted red pepper spread, or Toum garlic spread can zhuzh up protein and grain bowls, grilled meats or veggies, adding colour and flavour to a summer spread without extra prep.

And then there’s “tomato girl summer,” the relaxed Mediterranean-inspired aesthetic taking over social feeds. The PC Test Kitchen is leaning in with new greenhouse-grown varieties, including PC Luscious Lovelies strawberry-type tomatoes on the vine, plus a PC® Tomato Sizzle Dip recipe(Open in a new tab).

At its best, value is more than a price point. It’s the combination of price, quality, freshness and experience. Whether Canadians are planning a Canada Day gathering, stocking the freezer for weeknight grilling, or looking for fresh ways to try the latest trends, this summer’s PC Insiders Report brings inspiration, offers and easy ideas together in one place.
